Little Fox

I made this little red fox yesterday. This time I actually kept track of how long it took me from start to finish- a bit over 10 hours- yikes! 

That's either dedication or I need to get a life!  

 He is just 6 inches tall and quite cute I think.            

June Dog: Jolene

A friend of mine, a fellow Tart's member, sent me a picture of her workmate's dog and asked if I would make a felted figure of her- Jolene. Here is the picture:

What an incredibly beautiful dog! Also, such a challenge for me- the black becomes literally blinding after a while when working with it. Sounds crazy I know, but I had to keep repositioning it while working because all the black tended to obscure the details. Anyway, enough excuses, here is my interpretation of Jolene.

May Dog: Beagle

I just made it under the wire. Here is my May dog of my "dog a month" challenge. He is a cute beagle. I hope you like him too.

 And here he is in my hand so you can gauge his size...  

 I never realized a beagle's tail stood higher than its head until I researched them for this project. I guess you learn something new every day.

Basset Hound: April's Dog

I have managed to continue my "dog a month" goal with a sweet basset hound.

So far this year:

Bulldog, Mixed Breed, West-highland Terrier, Afghan, and Basset Hound

Moose

I made this moose the other day. I have no reason why I wanted to make a moose?? Just ended up making him. He is the largest animal needle felt I have made to date. I think he is a bit too big- standing just shy of 12 inches measuring from the very top of his highest antler. From the top of his head he measures about 9 inches high.  He isn't huge by any means, but compared to the other animals I have made, he is much larger.
The challenge was to make very thin legs that could support a large body and balance a large head with antlers that were beyond the point of gravity for the spindle legs. It worked out fine- maybe I just over-think things.
His antlers and legs are wired so they can be moved. He has plastic eyes, otherwise he is solid wool. I think I should call him Bowinkle.

 

Gatsby

May I introduce my four-legged grandson Gatsby! He is a Miniature Schnauzer. My daughter -in -law gave me a needle-felting dogs book for Christmas that had a little Miniature Schnauzer on the cover. I took a lot of pictures of Gatsby when he was visiting, so I thought I would give him a try. He is pretty cute in real life- quite a personality- I hope they think this little replica of him is as cute!

Rat Band

I have been needle felting a band of rats. Why? I have no idea, I just found the idea stuck in my head for a while now and had to let it out. The first rat I made was the clarinetist. He is also the tallest measuring in at about 5 inches.

The second one was the trombonist.  He is about the same size but has a smaller head in relation to his overall body size.

He was followed by the piano man. He only stands 4 1/2 inches. 

Then the saxophone player.

And finally the bass player.
